IT is the domain of the Nerd...right? Sorry, wrong!
It might have been a few years ago, but nowadays it is becoming more and more unacceptable for IT workers to hide behind the shield of technical mystery and dark arts. Unfortunately, I can include myself as being guilty of this crime in the past. However, as I started to become more closely involved with the business side of the workplace, it became clear to me what the people 'at the coal face' wanted and expected from IT infrastructures.
To my shock, I learnt that people in my role had become to be seen as the instigators of disruption to working practices rather than aids to efficiency. Nowadays, being more focused on the needs of business, I hope that potential clients will see me as somebody who can help deliver a cost-effective solution to their working environment, rather than a proxy for over-complication.
