Future Paths

Time allowing, I am hoping to become more proficient in the areas of design, web development and database technologies. It would be nice to be able to one day offer websites written in either ASP.NET technologies or PHP and have a good working knowledge of SQL platforms and VBA. However, being realistic, it is doubtful that I will ever be able to pursue those desired skills under any other guise than a hobby. If this website one day turns into a dynamic, database-driven, visually attractive piece of web real-estate then you'll know I've made progress!

On the other hand, increasingly, I am finding myself being asked to get more closely involved with the business side of the workplace rather than the technical. In many ways this makes sense. Undoubtedly, the efficiency of desktop IT solutions has dramatically slashed the headcount in technical support requirements and IT is definitely moving closer to business rather than being stuck in a dark office in the bowels of the building. Like I said earlier, change is never far away in this profession and I'm happy to embrace this. After all, who wants to be stuck in a rut?

Oh yes, I also still play in a band at weekends...
